Library Association (CGLA) was started on December 13, 2012 (February 13, 2024 is officially registered under the Chhattisgarh Societies
Registration Act, 1973 Vide No. 122202456077/2024) mainly by the personal
enthusiasm of Dr. Kundan Jha, a man who devoted his life
for the growth and development of Public Libraries in Chhattisgarh State. Dr. Kundan Jha is called the Father of Public Library Movement in Chhattisgarh State due to his Contribution. "He is the founder member and the first President of the Chhattisgarh Library Association."
Dr. Kundan Jha, a visionary and trailblazer, dedicated his life to the noble cause of promoting literacy and knowledge dissemination through public libraries in Chhattisgarh State. His unwavering commitment and tireless efforts have left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of the region.

The Association, existing-to-develop high standards of librarianship
and library and information services. The
core objective of CGLA is to provide a common platform to library and
information science professionals for exchange of latest updates, new
knowledge, improve the quality of library and information centers and
functioning for the welfare of Library Professionals. The CGLA is
dedicated for the holistic development of library profession,
therefore frequently organizes various events like seminars,
thought-provoking discussions, brainstorming sessions for insights to
conceptualize innovative research proposals are the usual activities
under the canvas of association. The association also frequently
strives to organize invited lectures, workshops for professional and
students on contemporary advancements of library sciences.

Award :
Chhattisgarh
Library Association (CGLA) invites nominations/applications for
following awards, in different categories for every year. These
awards have been constituted to honor and encourage the Library and
Information Science professionals in Chhattisgarh for encouraging
outstanding achievements and remarkable accomplishment reflecting the
services, goals of the library profession.
The
nominations for different categories of awards with a view to
recognizing the efforts of library and informatio science
professionals, who have made an invaluable contribution to their
library through their imagination, zeal, enthusiasm and have
incorporating new technologies.
The
Application in prescribe format from aspiring professionals are
welcome along with a write up in no more than 500 words mentioning
major achievement in support of nominations, including information
about academic and professional career, professional activities or
offices held, special projects and services carried out while
discharging responsibilities, academic publications and any other
related information, demonstrating a commitment to the library and
informatio science profession along with latest curriculum vitae (one
passport size photo) of the candidate.

Association regularly organizes various training programmes, such as,
Certificate in Library Science, Computer Training on Koha Software, Orientation Programme to the working librarians and Workshops on
various subjects.

The
present CGLA website provides an opportunity for Library Vendors to
register themselves on the given Link which will provide their Names
and Addresses in each category. The interested vendors are therefore
advised to enroll themselves on payment of Rs. 1000/- per year per
category. Only after registration, their names and addresses and also
the link of their websites, if any will be provided on ILA website.
For the purpose, the basic requirement will be to produce/ provide
certificates from at least two Universities / Reputed Colleges for
rendering satisfactory services to them. Online (UPI)/ The
cheque/demand draft may be drawn in favour of Chhattisgarh Library
Association at any Bank in Bilaspur. Outside cheques must include Rs
100 /- as bank commission charges.
